Dolphin ICT have completed a complex project for iportrail, the UKs first new inland rail freight hub for a decade which has involved working with multiple contractors to enable them to design a system that would work hand in hand with a number of existing technical systems.
We’ve worked with iportrail, the new transport hub for South Yorkshire, at iPort – the Logistics Park and Strategic Rail Freight Terminal for Doncaster UK, to provide a consultancy service which has seen us forge relationships with lighting and security contractors to gain an understanding of their systems giving us the insight needed to deliver a service that helps to keep lorries moving, goods flowing and the team fully connected with the relevant IT hardware and software.
As part of the project, Dolphin ICT installed access control for South Yorkshire based iportrail, which allows drivers to gain entry by using electronic passes, meaning lorries can access the site 24 hours a day.
Russell Till, managing director, of Dolphin ICT said: “This was a great project to work on at a fantastic new facility for Doncaster.
“It was a complex project for a major new organisation based at a phenomenal new facility in the town. We are proud to be based in Doncaster because of the fantastic connectivity and iportrail brings a whole new level of connectivity for businesses linking South Yorkshire into a global network.
“Working closely with multiple contractors, our highly skilled technical team were able to understand iportrail’s business needs and find out how this fantastic new rail freight hub would operate.
“We then, working with logistics specialists Fargo Systems, installed server systems at the site to ensure that the rail container terminal has a robust IT system in place which is vital to the smooth running of operations. Providing the correct equipment and systems have meant that iportrail could operate an efficient and effective service from day one.
“We are particularly pleased with the new secure entry system which we installed, enabling lorries to come and go throughout the night, without compromising the site’s security or requiring extra manpower.
“The whole project means operations can run smoothly at iportrail and trade can continue around the clock.
“We have clients across the globe, but it is always nice to work on a project in your home town, especially one that carries so much value for the local economy.”
Iportrail, in the heart of South Yorkshire, offers some of the highest specification in the UK. Its terminal is also integrated into the wider iPort logistics hub so occupiers can directly access the rail terminal, using their own specialist vehicles on the facility’s private roads.
Jim Slade, from Fargo Systems, said: “Fargo Systems is a leading innovator in the provision and support of core business software and services to the logistics industry.
“We are proud to have delivered this innovative solution for our client at the iport in Doncaster in partnership with Dolphin ICT.”
